I'm really impressed that you were able to get the blue of the sky in and still manage to properly expose the rocks in the foreground on the first photo. It certainly doesn't look like you did an HDR, but we will be doing that in the club soon!
As for the second photo, zoom that flash in!! More light on the rubbish and less on the door frame! ;)
