Hack Your Canon For More Functionality

Saw this article today in Gizmodo on how to give your Canon camera more functionality with a non-destructive software upgrade. Definately worth looking into if you want to give your little Canon more features.

Photographing Food

I was curious and went looking for tips on taking pictures of food. This one has a lot of great examples and commentary on how they were lit, composed, etc. It also talks about the process of professional food photography and what goes into a great shot.

EDIT: Library Photo Contest

I just found out that the Library Photo Contest is one-entry-per-person, so do not spam the hell out of Lua with your best pictures.

DPS Contest: Deadline Soon!

Here's another photography contest announcement for you, kids. Digital Photography School (who's one of our links on the side of the page) is holding a contest in conjunction with Photrade, here. First prize is your choice between a Canon Rebel Xsi (my camera) or a Nikon D60. Second prize is a Canon PowerShot SD 850IS point-and-shoot and third prize is a nifty camera bag. The theme is Portrait. It's free to enter, but here's the catch, there's a limit to one entry per person... and the contest ends in 10 days. There seems to be a peer-voting component to it also, so the time constraint puts us all at a disadvantage. Too bad I didn't see this sooner. In any case... vote for my picture!

UPDATE: So it's come to my attention that you need to register with Photrade in order to submit or vote. I'm not entirely sure what Photrade is, but it appears to be a medium to sell photographs. Maybe worth exploring.

Library Photo Contest

As Grummer mentioned in our last meeting, the Armacost Library (that shabby looking building in the center of campus) is hosting a Photography and Digital Art Contest. It was posted in the UR Notes, so I'm sure no one saw it. The prize is a $40 giftcard to Barnes & Nobles and having your piece displayed in the Library. Not the most inticing prize, but you've got nothing to lose. There's no theme, no entry fee and there doesn't seem to be a limit to the number of entries you can submit, which means only one thing: Spam the hell out of them with your best pictures. More info can be found here.
I'll be honest with you, crew. There's no reason why we shouldn't all be entering, and no reason why one of us shouldn't win. And by God, if we don't, I'll have you all running laps and lifting miniature barbells with your shutter fingers.

Another Attempt at HDR

Taken last night during an epic sunset. I will repost an additional picture once I fix the white balance for the foreground.
